From cooking, to a Native American Powwow, to a craft sale there’s a lot going on in North Texas this weekend and it’s all for free!

Arts are the first on our list of free events.

The African American Museum’s current exhibition Rising Up: Hale Woodruff’s Murals from Talladega College is set to end February 28.  In 1939 the president of Talladega college commissioned hale woodruff to paint murals to commemorate the revolt on the Amistad in 1839.  Harry Robinson JR,  president of the African American Museum shared why this exhibition has special meaning to Dallas.  “Dallas is the farthest west that these murals will go, it’s the only African American institution that will be hosting them. Having these murals is very significant because on this spot in 1936 for the Texas centennial Hale Woodruff exhibited works in the Hall of Negro Life.”

The Kimbell Art Museum will host “Art at your Fingertips” on Saturday from 1:00pm – 4:00pm.  There will be free art-making, children’s films, and performances for kids of all ages.  Plus admission to Bernini: Sculpting in Clay is free during the festival.

How about learning how to make ravioli at home.  Williams-Sonoma at Stonebriar Centre presents February Technique Classes this Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30am.  You will learn everything from creating pasta sheets, preparing the filling, stuffing and how to make a simple sauce.

UT Arlington will host Native American Powwow Saturday from noon to 10:00pm in the bluebonnet ballroom.  There will be American Indian drumming and singing, a grand entry, traditional dances and music.  This event is great for all ages.
